Some and any

Use ‘any’ with negatives and questions and ‘some’ with affirmatives.

Question 1: Is there any milk in the fridge?

Negative 1: No, there isn’t any milk.

Affirmative: But there is some soda.

Question 2: Do you have any rice?

Negative: No, I don’t have any rice.

Affirmative: But I have some pasta.

Use ‘some’ with offers and requests for things

Offer: Would you like some tea?

Offer: Do you want a beer?

Request: Can you lend me some money?

Request: Can you get me some tea at the supermarket?
